Honey the wonder foodI just go the September volume of "The Whole Dog Journ" and the is a wonderful artical about the benifits of honey. here are just a few things that I learned.
Honey is a natural energizer, a nerve tonic and supremem heart tonic. it is immediately absorbed in to the bloodstream of the consumer.
It's highly medicinal and will inhibit growth of harmful bacteria in the entire digestive tract and destroy those of a toxic nature, these facts have been well proven.
Honey is an invert sugar, made up of mostly glucose and fructose, other wise called monosaccharinde or simple sugars ,which meand it is more easily assimilated. A tablespoon of honey supplies 63 calories. Raw honey contains vitamins A, B-complex, C,D,E, and K, plus calcium, phosphorus, magesium, silicon, sulfur, potassium, manganese, coper and iodine. The darker varieties such as bukwheat cpmtaom jogjer min eral levels. Vitamin C levels var some honey contains up to 300 milligrams of vit C per 100 grams (about 31/2 ounces or 7 tablespons).
Honey has been a medicine as well as a food for millennia. Ancient Greek,Asyrian, Chinese and Roman physicians routinely prescribed it for health and longevity and for conditions such as indigestion, diarrhea, fevers, coughs, colds, flu, asthma, allergies and ulcers. It was also used as a revitalizing food for athletes, soldiers and people recovering from illness or injury.
Honey is also said to increase the absorption of calcium consumed at the same time, help pain and work as a gentle laxative to help prevent constipation. It is also used topically to reat open wounds, burns, cuts, abrasions, and skin infections.
For dogs with stomach upset , fast the dog for 24 hours and then feed only honey( 2 to 4 table spoons a day) and free choice water for 24 to 48
hours. Then slowly add normal food in small amounts back in to the dogs diet.
It's also very helpful in helping dogs and humans deal with allergies. By feeding 1 or 2 table spoons of local honey per day, you and your dog will be getting very small amounts of the pollens that cause the allergic reaction. This allows the body to build a defence against the allergins.
The artical has tons more info. As does the entire journal. I encourage everyone to check it out. Their site is whole-dog-journal.com/cs

I'll have to try that too! Do you think honey helps their coats as well? Murphy seems to have dry skin.

I went to Walmart, all they had was was the flax seed oil. The flax seed I wanted (that you buy) was all gone! I'm going back this morning to see if they have some more!
